Durga Saptashati — The Esoteric Meaning

Often scriptural stories seem to be too fantastical. Do such legends and stories in the ancient texts have any esoteric meaning? For example, who are Madhu-Kaitabha, Mahishasur, Raktabija, Chanda-Munda, Dhumralochan and Shumb-Nishumbh? Listen to this revealing discourse to understand the true meaning of Durga Saptashati and how it relates to the hurdles on the path of any seeker.

How to Benefit from Durga Saptashati [Hindi with English CC]

In this discourse, Om Swami answers a question on the Durga Saptashati – How it should be recited and its benefits. Durga Saptashati is a description of Ma Jagdamba – it is a story and describes how she fought and won many battles with asuras. But once you have read the story once, if you keep re-reading it, there would be no interest left and no further knowledge gained. So, for someone who wants to recite the Durga Saptashati, once you have read it and understood it, focus on chanting some of its powerful mantras instead. One mantra is a Sri Vidya mantra and the other is the Navarna mantra. The only exception to this is if you know Sanskrit and you enjoy chanting in Sanskrit, you can recite the Durga Saptashati with good rhythm and tone. Because then you are doing it for enjoyment and not benefits.
