The Shape Of The Anushthan

The Anushthan is a vow of thirteen days. On each day one chapter of The “Devi Mahatmya” is read on the Temple, and the day is sealed with the Havan. On the thirteenth day the Pūrṇāhuti is offered, and the vow is complete.

  1. The Temple door, and the bell.
  2. The Sankalpa, the vow of the day.
  3. The chapter of the day, read on the Temple.
  4. The Divine Darshan.
  5. The Havan: the kindling, Samidha, Ājya, Til, Havan Sāmagrī, and the Āhuti of the day.
  6. The Ārati, the flame circled three times.
  7. The prayer, and the close of the day.

The day is kept in this browser, and it moves on by one day at a time. A second visit on the same day repeats that day, and does not carry the vow forward.

The traditional way of reading The “Devi Mahatmya”

“The description of formal pūjā, accompanied by the recitation of the Devīmāhātmya, and the sacrificial Homa fire (12.10), applies to the Durgā Pūjā today as well as then.”

Chapter 12, Interpretations

The Primordial Sacred Fire Strips Away And Burns the many layers of ignorance and delusions of the ego, Guiding devotees to attain Ancient And Eternal Knowledge towards realizing The True Self.”
